Country
Genre Country is a mixture of elements of American music from the southern United States and the Appalachian Mountains. The music is rooted in folk songs of North America, kelp music, gospel music, and has developed since the 1920s. The term country music began to be used around the 1940s to replace the term hillbilly music is memorable condescending. In the 1970s, the term country music has become a popular term. Another term for this genre of music is country and western, but it is rarely used except in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
