Alternative Rock is rock music that emerged in the 1980s and became very popular in 1990. The name "alternative" was found in the 1980s to describe punk rock bands that do not conform with the punk rock of its time. As a specific type of music, alternative rock has a sub-varying flow, from indie music that began on 1980 and became popular in 1990; like indie rock, grunge, gothic rock, and college rock.
